Full Front Card Shaker Tutorial

TUTORIAL TIME!!

Today I'm sharing a tutorial on how to do a fully covered shaker card paired with an image from the latest digi collection "Spellbinding Witches."

I started by creating my background using Tim Holtz twisted citron, mowed lawn and black soot distress oxide ink.  Then I did a bunch of splatters with white and black thinned out gesso and liquid glitter. I added another layer used PD's "Creepy Tree" stencil but instead of the oxide I used the regular TH black soot for a darker black and also distressed the edges slightly with it.

To start your fully covered shaker, cut your acetate 1/2" wider on each side of your whole layer.

Next I scored my acetate at that 1/2" mark but when you do this don't score EXACTLY at 1/2".  Try to make it just a hair bigger on all sides to compensate for the thickness of your paper and sequins you might add.

I found my card front was just a smidge too tight once I put it inside with the flaps closed so I shaved part of my card front off to accommodate.  This part can be a little finicky but it works out in the end.
Now cut your corners off indicated in the photo above so you have very nice flat flaps to adhere.  Add your favourite adhesive to your acetate so that when you fold the flaps closed it's attached to your card front layer as a whole piece, not the base of your card.
For my card images, as mentioned, I have used an image from the new Spellbinding Witches called "Ravella Witch" but also the recently released "Fang-tastic" matchables stamp and die set.  I thought the combination worked perfectly together!

The next step for your fully covered acetate shaker is to position your images where you would like them to be because ... see next photo:
...you will want to add some foam tape to pop up your acetate to give your sequins more room to float around in so this is what it looks like behind the scenes.  You can see that once I place my images back the foam tape will be covered.
Now you would cover your card front with the prepped acetate folding your flaps around to the back and adhering 3 out of 4 flaps.  Next, remove your foam backing and stick your acetate to the foam and then add your sequins from the last flap you've left open then adhere the 4th flap.  VOILA!  You now have your card front and as shown here I have already popped it onto a white layer and then the black card itself.
Add your images using your favourite adhesive or more foam and you're done!  There are so many different ways of creating this.  You could actually have your scene inside the whole acetate cover if you choose but I still suggest popping your images up so you have room for your contents to float around.  I have seen some without using foam and if you choose this, just remember to score a bit bigger than your card front.

If you have any questions please leave a comment and I'll do my best to get back to you.  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and give it a try!

Have a great day!

Colouring Tutorial with Polkadoodles Grab Your Broomstick

Today I'm sharing a Copic colouring video using the witch from "Grab Your Broomstick" stamp and die set.

To create my background, I've used Wilted Violet, Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers distress oxides.  After colouring this up I laid down the Trees/Foiliage Great Outdoors 6" x 6" stencil and coloured that in using black soot distress ink.  I love this stencil!

I used a couple of design papers from the Boneshakin Halloween Craft paper pad and layered up multiple pieces.  I die cut all the pieces using the die set from this collection and popped all of them up (except the pumpkin) using foam tape.  I added some grass and that cute Halloween fence to finish off!

COLOURING TUTORIAL

If you celebrate Halloween, do you partake in dressing up?  What was your favourite costume?  I was Raggedy Ann one year and even had the little pantaloon's she wore.  LOL!  It was fun!

Polkadoodles Scary Boo

Today I'm sharing a slimline card featuring Scary Boo Matchables from the Going Batty collection.

I started by colouring all my images using Copics and then die cut them using my Big Shot with the matching dies.  So easy and sooooo cute!

Next I created my main Halloween night scene by covering my layer with chipped sapphire distress oxide ink.  Then I laid down my Creepy Tree halloween stencil and coloured that up using black distress ink ... not the oxide but just the regular black ink.  I find it's a lot darker than the oxide's and I like how it made that creepy tree darker.  Then I distressed the edges with the same ink.  After doing that I added some splatters, which look a lot bigger in this pic than up above.

I layered a few pieces of grass, popped on all my die cut images with some foam tape and added some googley eyes everywhere!!  LOL!  I even added a couple of bigger eyes to the bat and the "BOO" sentiment.

For a bit of an extra touch I added a layer of purple glitter to finish off the card.  Are you a Halloween card maker?  I know some countries don't celebrate but they are fun!

Polkadoodles Spellbinding Witches Collection

I'm back today with a card creation from the new Spellbinding Witches digital collection.

The image itself is called Isadora Witch and I've coloured her up using my copics.  She's available in pre-coloured light skin tones and pre-coloured deep skintones, which I think is so amazing and convenient when you don't feel like colouring.  I added some Stardust stickles to the crystal ball in her hand to make it pop a bit more.  Very pretty in real life.

The sentiment and extra pumpkins come from Grab Your Broomstick matchables set.  I love that this stamp set comes with a die set too.

My favourite thing I just LOVE about this card is the non-traditional colours.  I've used a few pieces from the Spooky Special paper pack but if you're too impatient to wait for shipping then the Boo Halloween printable paper could satisfy your non-traditional colour need as well.  LOL!  I think this is the first time I've ever made a Halloween card with these kinds of colours.  Christmas yes but not Halloween but it's so fun!!! 😀

How do you like using non-traditional colours for events or holidays?  Is it something you do often?

Polkadoodles Hocus Pocus

Have you checked out the new stamp and die sets from the Scary Boo collection at Polkadoodles?  Today I have a little Halloween shaker card using the cute new stamp set "Hocus Pocus"!  👻

There really isn't much to this card as I just wanted to do something simpler to make the spooky mansion stand out so I focused that on top of a shaker card.

I coloured this image using my copics and it's just so amazing just by itself that you don't really need anything else.  I added some bats for the sky scene and that fabulous sentiment that comes in the same set.

The background paper is from the new Halloween "Batty Boo" paper pack available at your local retailers.  Are you like me who hoards her Halloween papers?  LOL!!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

GO BATTY - Fang-tastic

Today I am sharing a Halloween shaker slimline card using images from the new GO BATTY collection!!  👻👻🎃

I've used the stamp and die collection called "Fang-tastic".  HA HA HA even the name is CUTE!!  I normally colour my images first and then create but this time I built the card first.  I didn't know which ones or how many I would use so this way I coloured less.  Work smarter not harder!  ha ha ha!!

I coloured my background shaker layer using Wilted Violet distress oxide and then covered the Creepy Foliage Halloween stencil with black soot ink.  Here is a close up to see that background in the shaker piece.

I popped my shaker layer overtop some super cute papers from the new Spooky Special paper pad.  Just ADORABLE!!

I popped on a couple of gooley eyes to the ghost for fun.

I love creating Halloween cards because of the non-traditional colours.  Just sooo much fun to escape the regular colours for everyday cards.

Krista Smith Stamps "Birthday Girl"

Do you remember Saturated Canary?  The artist was Krista Smith and although that company doesn't exist anymore, as an artist, she is still creating and selling and I've always loved colouring up her images.  I found time to colour again!  YAY ME!  🤣🤣🤣

It's very rare that I colour something twice, not because I don't like it but because I don't normally have time.  Being a part of design teams for so long has me pushing along with all their new images, which I love!!  However, these were commissioned cards and this is what she chose!

This image is called "Birthday Girl" and you can find her here on Krista Smith Stamps Etsy Shop.

I've coloured her up using my copics and in this case the customer asked for a blonde with blue eyes and her favourite colour is lime green.  This was a challenge but I like how it turned out.  😀. Both are shaker cards as well.  Just some fun interaction for the recipient.

And this one was for a recipient with brown hair, blue eyes and favourite colour being purple and turquoise.  I love this combo!
And this is the first time I have ever duplicated a card as close as this but the customer was short on time.  Thankfully the girls live in different cities so they'll never see each other's cards.  LOL!  And the customer was happy!!  That's what counts!  😀💕

Thanks for stopping by I hope you liked my creations for today!!

GNOME-AZING CHRISTMAS - Let It Snow

It's SNOWING GLITTER!  Well at least on my winter mini slimline scene anyway.  🤣  ❄️⛄️ I back sharing another card by the new:

GNOME-AZING CHRISTMAS!!

I first set out creating my background of glitter snowflakes using Tumbled Glass and Kitsch Flamingo distress oxide.  I then laid down my PD "Snowballs" stencil and covered with some iridescent glitter gel.

I then added some snow banks and holographic film cardstock for the ice to finish my landscape scene.  I've coloured up some images from the recently released "Let It Snow" polymer stamp set using my Copics.  For a little added texture I used pencil crayons on the snowman's hat ...

... and the gnome's cuffs, where you can see some lines on the both of them.

I did make a mistake while creating the scarf but I had quite a bit of my image coloured so I didn't want to start over.  I had first coloured the scarf a pink combo and didn't like how it turned out so I tried to cover it with a purple combo.  Welllllll.... there was something on the paper that wasn't allowing the Copic ink to soak in so it was looking pretty rough.  I stamped off the image again and discovered I had stamped it off on to paper meant for pencils.  Well that's ok then!!  I decided to use a pencil combo instead!!  One tip about fussy cutting your "extra piece" is to colour the white edges where you cut, using a black marker so you can't tell that it's been cut.  Works like a charm!!  😀

After all images were coloured I popped them onto the card using some foam dots and added the sentiment, which is also in the "Let it Snow" set.

And just like that another card done for Christmas!!  I am loving that companies are now doing releases in August!  It's sooo helpful especially for people who hate doing the same card over.  That's me.  Drives me nuts!  LOL!  When do you start working on yours?  🎄🎁

NEW POLKADOODLES CHRISTMAS RELEASE

Wooooooo NEW RELEASE FROM POLKADOODLES!!

GNOME-AZING CHRISTMAS

AND this stamp set is super awesome because they now come with dies!  THAT'S RIGHT!!

They are rather easy to make but you need a small scene and these smaller sets are perfect for just this!  I've used the new Let's Get Blitzen' set and coloured up the gnome, reindeer and lots of trees for the scenery.  I added some glitter to all the ornaments on the trees:

I used one sheet from the new Happy Christmas paper pack for my snowflake background.  And how cute is that Woodland Door Die?!!  I coloured in some of the lines on the outside of the door to show more texture.  I added another piece behind the door and coloured it up using my Copic markers to make it look like their's light inside.  If you open the door you'll see a wooden panel wall.  Well...at least that's what I decided it was.  LOL!

I added some snow to the vines and leaves on the left using my Molotow marker.

I thought a cute idea was to have the reindeer (or deer) peeking out from behind all the tree's playing hide and seek with her.  LOL!

Have you gotten into making any version of slimline cards yet?  Some people thing they are a passing phase.  Ummm...I don't think so, do you?

Happy Birthday PD

HELLOOOOOOO!!!  Today I am sharing an A2 sized FULL shaker card with you.  This card is covered from corner to corner with a full plastic cover and shaker contents that can travel inside the whole card!!

I started by picking out a few pieces of paper from PD's "Birthday Fun" paper pack.  The presents are from Sweet Birthday and Big Birthday Surprise  clear polymer stamp sets.  I then layered my pieces with some pretty holographic paper which looks amazing in real life!!

The sentiment is also from Big Birthday Surprise and I just love the boldness and the font of this sentiment.

I love how these presents turned out so bold and bright and FUN!!  Just how a birthday should be!  I added some silver Stickles to the dots on the present and it really seem to tie in with that holographic layer.

It's so hard to take a photo of a shaker card so I have included this small video just to show you the movement of it.  The one thing I learned that I will probably always do now is pop up elements using 3D foam tape.  It really helps lift that overall shaker layer so the sequins get all over inside.

What colours do you like best for your birthday cards?  Does it depend on your recipient?  Most times that's the case for me.  A birthday is all about being unique so I always create the card around the uniqueness of that particular person.  It's always a winning combo!  😀

Stripes Challenge

Another card from me for PinkFresh's "Stripes" challenge.  I love that it challenged me to use my "slim fancy diagonal stripes" die because I loved it at first but then found it a little difficult to use.  I think that was operator use ... lack of inspiration or something.  LOL!!

I covered my stripes die cut using TH distress inks ... dang it I put my colours away!!  Well...black and 3 pinks is what I used but then I splattered with white and black gesso AND also Lawn Fawn's liquid glitter.

I used PF's "Perfect Sentiments", "Leafy Branch" die and "Small Butterflies" stencil, stamp and die set.  I cut an extra set of the leafy branch and small butterflies with vellum to add an extra layer of depth and I love how it turned out!

Thanks for peeking!  Have a great weekend all!

PinkFresh "Just A Note"

Sharing one of my latest fun creations using products from PinkFresh.  It's actually for their monthly challenge and this one is "Stripes"!

I've used the following PF items:

Perfect Sentiments stamp and die set - LOVE THIS set!!  Great every day sayings but after stamping the image I added some embossing powder.  I also cut 4 of the die pieces and stacked it up making it look like a really REALLY thick chipboard piece.

For the focal pieces I used the "Be Strong" stamp, die and stencil set and I also die cut another layer of the flowers using vellum and layered them behind.  I used my distress oxides and the horizontal stripes stencil for my background layer.  I also added some of PF's sliver metallic pearls for the finishing touch!

I hope you're enjoying your weekend!!  We are in the midst of having way too many fires in our province and it's a good time to be staying indoors.
